It is a popular street food from the Indo Chinese recipe palette made from crisp and deep fried potato wedges or potato fries. It is sweet, spicy coated with the honey, chilli sauce, vinegar and soya sauce which makes it a ideal snack or as a starters.

This recipe of honey chilli potato is simple and easy to make and it can also be prepared with the left over french fries or potato wedges, or it can also be prepared by frozen chips which should be easily available in any supermarket. In this recipe, fresh potato chips are prepared.

For potato wedges

  • 2 potato (wedges)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon corn flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (crushed)
  • oil as required (for frying)

For honey chilli potato

  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • 1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
  • 1 inch ginger (finely chopped)
  • 4 tablespoon spring onions (chopped)
  • 1/4 onions (petals)
  • 1/2 capsicum (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoon soya sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame/til (roasted)

How to make honey chilli potato-

1.Firstly, in a large vessel boil water and add potato wedges and salt.

2.Boil for 2 minutes or til they become soft.

3.Drain off the water and add cornflour and pepper. Mix well and make sure cornflour gets covered by all the potato wedges.

4.Now, deep fry in hot oil. Stir occasionally, till the wedges turns golden brown and crisp.

5.Drain off the potatoes, removing off excess oil. Keep aside.

6. Take a large kadai, heat 2 tablespoon oil and saute garlic, ginger, green chilli and spring onions.

7.Further add onions and capsicum. Saute them on high flame till onions become translucent in colour.

8. Now add chilli sauce, tomato sauce soya sauce, vinegar and salt.Saute on high flame for 30 seconds.

9.Now mix 1 tablespoon cornflour in 1/4 cup of water without any lumps.

10. Pour the cornflour mixture into the veggies and stir continuously till it turns translucent.

11.Turn off the flame and add 2 tablespoon and mix well.

12. Further add fried potatoes and mix gently. Also add chopped spring onions and roasted sesame seeds. Mix well.

13. Serve honey chilli potato with rice or as it is.

  • Fry the potatoes till they turn crispy or else it doesn’t taste good.
  • Adjust the amount of honey depending upon sweetness you are looking for.
  • Do not cook once honey is added, as the flavor of the honey will be lost.
